Keller Elementary is named for Thomas W. Keller, a longtime BISD administrator. Keller, a Brownsville native, served as principal of three district elementary schools. Cromack, Resaca, and Victoria Heights. For 9 years, he was the beloved principal of Stell Middle School. Keller eventually moved into district administration where he worked closely with Superintendent Raul A. Besteiro Jr. to construct new schools and classrooms for a rapidly growing school district. Keller retired as Deputy Superintendent in 1990. Keller Elementary opened its doors on August of 2009.
Thomas W. Keller Elementary seeks to create a challenging learning environment that encourages high expectations for success through differentiated instruction that allows for individual differences and learning styles. We strive to make children confident and creative builders of their future. Our school promotes a safe, orderly, caring, and supportive environment.
Each student's self esteem is fostered by positive relationships with students and staff. We strive to have our parents, teachers, and community members actively involved in our students' learning.
Thomas W. Keller Elementary believes that every child is entitled to enjoy his/her childhood. They should be valued for their individuality, culture and heritage. They should be encouraged to develop their full potential in a stimulating and caring environment. Aims: We the staff, parents and community aim to encourage each and every child in all aspects of learning by:
* Working together as a team providing a balanced curriculum
* Catering for all abilities promoting curiosity and enthusiasm
* Encouraging independence and confidence
* Promoting logical and creative thinking
* Encouraging respect for others and personal self-esteem
* Providing an environment which is caring, and stimulating.
We want our children to take with them happy memories of their early years as Thomas W. Keller "Grizzlies".
